Birgitte Støvring (f. 1982) er uddannet på Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi i 2008. Hun har lavet flere udsmykninger rundt omkring i landet, blandt andet til kvindeafdelingen i Horserød Statsfængsel og til senest til Retten i Svendborg. Hun har udstillet i Danmark og i udlandet, blandt andet hos Alanna Miller Gallery i New York, hvor hun er repræsenteret. Herhjemme har hun blandt andet udstillet på Museet for Religiøst Kunst i Lemvig (gruppeudstilling), hvor hun er repræsenteret i samlingen, og på Himmerlands Kunstmuseum (sammen med Camilla Thorup). Hun bor og arbejder i Egtved.
Birgitte Støvring har i sine seneste billedserie arbejdet med en figur kaldet “gartnerinden”. Selv siger hun, at hun “aldrig har haft et ønske om at male forskønnede havebilleder, men med “gensynet med naturen” opstod der en fornyet gemt interesse. Min mors forældre kommer begge ud fra en slægt af gartnere, og i min familie har der altid været en stærk forbindelse til jord og vækst. Særligt min mormor – der ellers bar på mørke hemmeligheder efter 2.verdenskrig – havde grønne fingre. På mange måder var hun et simpelt menneske, men hun forstod vigtigheden i at pleje og gøde jorden – altså at give med omsorg, for at få noget konstruktivt retur.”

Birgitte Støvring (b. 1982) was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2008. She has had several commissions around the country, including for the women’s section in Horserød State Prison and most recently for the Court in Svendborg. She has exhibited in Denmark and abroad, including at the Alanna Miller Gallery in New York, where she is represented. Here at home, she has, among other things, exhibited at the Museum of Religious Art in Lemvig (group exhibition), where she is represented in the collection, and at Himmerlands Kunstmuseum (together with Camilla Thorup). She lives and works in Egtved.
In her latest photo series, Birgitte Støvring has worked with a figure called the “gardener”. She herself says that she “never had a desire to paint beautified garden pictures, but with the ‘revisiting nature’ a renewed hidden interest arose. My mother’s parents both come from a family of gardeners, and in my family there always had a strong connection to land and growth. My grandmother in particular – who otherwise had dark secrets after World War II – was a simple person in many ways, but she understood the importance of nurturing and fertilizing the land – that is to give with care, to get something constructive in return.”
